African superstar Samuel Eto’o to go on strike at Turkish Club

African superstar Samuel Eto’o reportedly wanted to quit his Turkish club in the recent transfer window, and could refuse to play after his wish was not granted.

Last week, the former FC Barcelona striker’s agent, Wilfried de Happi, revealed that his client was seeking an exit from Antalyaspor.

“I think the player has the right to be respected. We want to go to a club that recognises the player’s true worth. He has shown he can still play at a high level, could take on one last challenge,” he told Foot Mercato.

“We have told the Antalyaspor president we want to leave. We got a contract extension offer that wasn’t exceptional while we had other more significant offers from clubs, some of whom are playing in the Champions League or the Europa League.

“Having rejected quite a few offers before, notably from China, we were expecting a gesture from Antalyaspor for services rendered, particularly after the historic fifth-place finish in the league.”

His agent, however, also hinted that Eto’o might not be at his best if he does continue playing as he feels disrespected by the club.

“He has a contract and he’ll respect it. If he has to play, he’ll play. When a player isn’t happy, he can’t give 100%,” he added.

According to CamerounWeb, Eto’o threatened to not play for Antalyaspor again if he was not allowed to leave, which is believed to have angered club president Ali Safak.

Eto’o, who is captain of Antalyaspor, has one year left on his contract, and despite the rumours he could refuse to play, he did star against Galatasaray on Sunday, scoring his team’s only goal of the encounter.

With the Turkish transfer window having closed on Friday, the Cameroonian will remain at the club at least until January.
