Ghana Football Association vice President George Afriyie has resigned from the position as Chairman of the local organizing committee for the WAFU tournament, according to a publication by the Ghana Sports Newspaper.
Afriyie was appointed to head the committee to ensure the smooth run of the competition which starts on September 9.
Ghanasportsonline.com is yet to receive details of the decision that lead to him leaving the post.
Meanwhile reliable information indicate Ghana Football Association Executive Committee member Owuahene Acheampong has been appointed as the new chairman for the local organizing committee.
The latest development heightens a supposed rift between George Afriyie and Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi.
The WAFU competition will have 16 countries across West Africa participating in the two week tournament.
